College Fashionista X Vcluxe #13

STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Overall Great!

This Fashionista mixed things up a bit with this outfit, a modern twist on the traditional workman overalls. Not only is the material thinner than the conventional pieces, it is also not made of denim one of the overall's distinguishing features.

Overalls have long been established as the go-to "uniform" for blue-collared workers. From construction, farming to mining... overalls were deemed comfortable, durable and most important of all, worn as a protective layer over less hardwearing clothes. It was quite unusual to see men who are not in the hard-labour industry don the outfit, let alone a female. But times have changed, as so has fashion. This Fashionista's outfit is a shining beacon of light for women everywhere, and testament to the increasing success of feminism.

That said, many tend to shun the idea of overalls. But I think that is only because many do not know how simple it is to pair it up with other clothes and accessories so that it does not look too worker-like. The simple act of releasing the buckle off one side can change the entire look of your outfit. Overalls is something you can play with. See how this Fashionista added a tinge of yellow to her outfit? Depending on what kind of overalls you get, you can go even further and match it with exuberant colours and flashy accessories -- overalls can handle it! Doing so will also soften its' slightly masculine tone.

Overalls are perfect for Spring. Don't believe me? Even Fabsugar thinks so. I was just at Forever 21 the other day and saw this really cute floral denim shortalls, again, another variation of the traditional overalls. If you are after something a more traditional or a little more uppercut, check Adriano Goldschmied out. One of the best places to go for denim I reckon!
