STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Scrunch Time
No matter how much you love something, you will always need a break every now and then. This week, I took a break from Melbourne over the weekend and flew up to Sydney... where the sun was beaming, the skies blue and the fashion different.
This Fashionista caught my eye, looking effortlessly beautiful in her rouge coloured ruched dress. It is not easy pulling off a ruched dress as it is not an outfit that compliments the female body. More often than not, it can make one look larger than normal. However, this Fashionista's outfit works exceptionally well because she complimented her dress with an elastic waist belt, every girl's best friend when either wanting to give the illusion of a tinier waist or more accentuated curves.
This Fashionista also did the right thing by pairing her dress with a less catchy cardigan. The ruched dress is one that leans toward the more formal side. It, thus, gets toned down this way while still remaining the center of attraction. Not to mention, the scrunches on this Fashionista's dress helps break up an otherwise plain piece of cloth.
The good thing about a ruched dress is that they are easily accessible. The bad thing? You would probably need to spend slightly more than usual to get one that will really fit your body right. I find that Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet has definitely got ruched clothing down to a T. Stunning pieces such as this peplum dress or this venus mid length dress have without a doubt, caught hold of my attention.
